Celebrating 140 Years

23rd July 2016

Celebratory Choral Evensong – Saturday 6 August at 3pm

Many people are aware that the College of The Holy Spirit first opened its doors in 1851 but fewer will be aware that it was 25 years later that its chapel was consecrated as cathedral for the newly-formed United Diocese of Argyll & The Isles. The actual anniversary of this was in May but a celebratory weekend is being held on the first weekend in August. The Cathedral Choir will be in attendance along with Jonathan Cohen on organ and a number of special guests, including Bishop William, the local RC bishop, Bishop Idris and the Lord Lieutenant. Music will include that of Charles Wood and Hamish McCunn, whose centenary anniversaries we keep around the same time. We’ll also be marking the 100th anniversary of Provost Ball. All are most welcome to join us on the day for a service at 3pm, followed by a reception. There is limited accommodation available in the College over the weekend – please contact us if you wish to stay overnight on the Friday or Saturday.
