Tuesday 11 – Friday 14 December
led by Canon Alec Boyd
With the hullabaloo of all the trappings that come with Christmas, and the time leading up to it, it can be hard to remember what it’s all really about. Take a few days out with us and refresh yourself as you prepare to celebrate the miracle of the Incarnation.
Come for all or part of this retreat. Daily worship and address with time and space for silence for those who wish it.
Arrive in time for the evening meal (6.30pm) and leave in the afternoon on the days of your choice.
Alec Boyd was ordained deacon in 1971 and priest in 1980 of the Episcopal Church in Scotland in St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh after a successful teaching career to minister in St Peter’s Church Musselburgh. He was accepted into the Royal Army Chaplains’ Department in 1983 and served as an Army Chaplain until April 2000. He held various senior posts within the RAChD ending up as warden of the RAChD Centre in Germany with responsibility for chaplains’ training and moral, ethical and welfare training throughout the wider military community.
On leaving the Army Alec became warden of Launde Abbey, the Leicester Diocesan Conference & Retreat Centre where he led many retreats and quiet days and acted as spiritual director. On invitation of the Bishop of Lincoln Alec was appointed incumbent of the Fen & Hill Group of Parishes in the Horncastle Deanery, and became Rural Dean and a Canon and Prebend of Lincoln Cathedral.
Now retired to the Isle of Cumbrae, Alec works closely with the Cathedral of The Isles and the College of the Holy Spirit. He looks forward to welcoming people on retreat and sharing his experience with them.
