Pam and Tony Burdon – Sponsored Cycle

11th May 2016

We are sorry to report that due to unforeseen circumstances Pam & Tony are no longer able to take part in this event. If you wish to support the charity regardless then please use the link provided. Many thanks.

Former wardens Tony & Pam Burdon write of an exciting fundraising challenge

Some Friends may remember the sponsored bike ride which we undertook back in 2001 to raise funds for the restoration of the West Window. We still have special memories of that wonderful ride from Millport to the Butt of Lewis and all the amazing hospitality we enjoyed en route!

15 years later we are getting “back on our bikes” again! Since we retired in 2011 we have become closely involved with the charity Hand in Hand for Syria, and have set ourselves the challenge of raising £7000 for the charity during our joint 70th birthday year. (We both reach the magic age later this summer!) As part of this venture, we are planning to cycle the long-distance cycle route from Berlin to Copenhagen. We set out from Berlin on June 6th and (hopefully!) arrive at Copenhagen 10 days later, a distance of about 400 miles.

If there are any Friends who would like to sponsor us, you can do so online through our JustGiving page (If you look at the photo of us on this page, you will see that Tony is wearing a COTI sweatshirt!). This page also provides a link to the Hand in Hand website where you will find lots of information about the amazing work which this small charity is doing. As Syrian nationals, they are able to work directly within Syria in a way which isn’t possible for some other relief agencies.

If you prefer to sponsor us the “old fashioned way” we will be producing some sponsor forms. We will be sending some of these to the Cathedral, but if you would like us to send you a copy please give us a ring on 01759 304290 or email us on

Many thanks in anticipation of your support.
